Mythos Overworld Now Live + Massively Review

Friday, May 30th, 2008 |

As ThyrsaM has reported on our forums, the new Overworld is now live on the Test Center of the game.

To add to that, Massively is also reporting on the new layout and what the experience is like. They also have a whole set of screenshots to go with the launch.

For the past week, the folks at Flagship promised the Overworld Real Soon Now. A deathwatch was kept on the forums. It was going to be the next day, or the day after, or in a few hours. Players gathered on Mythos‘ IRC channel where devs tossed out tantalizing hints of what was to come. Then around 9pm EST dev Taylor Balbi advised everyone to re-patch and log in to the Test Center to see the Overworld. He gave some advice as people hurried to be the first into the new world.

  1. Test Center will be a separate server.
  2. Test Center and Beta Server will be online at the same time and require the same client.
  3. To tell which version you currently have, the login screen screen will make it obvious (two different ones).
  4. Test Center will start lagging after like 800 people, Mythos Beta won’t.
  5. Taylor Balbi is Awesome.

We think the other Flagship devs are pretty awesome as well. Though there were more than a few glitches with patching, we were able to eventually get in and take a quick run around some of the Overworld, its dungeons, the villages outside Stonehill, and the city of Stonehill itself. All we have left to wait for now is the open beta, expected in the next several weeks.

Enjoy :)

P.S. Also congratulations to ThyrsaM who is now a moderator on our website!

Mythos Conclave Round Table Discussion

Saturday, May 10th, 2008 |

Mythos Conclave had their first round table discussion in IRC today, which was mainly to do with the overworld. While it was mostly fans talking, it’s an interesting read and Mythos Community Manager, Taylor Balbi, was present to add some of his input which can be seen below.

<@TaylorFSS`home> We’re looking at how many we can cram into an overworld, we really won’t know the true number until it reaches you guys. We’re thinking 100+ will be sharing an Overworld. Also, transferring from one overworld instance to the other will require you to be in a safe area.

<%G-15> From what I saw, cities are now part of the Overworlds
<@TaylorFSS`home> Correct G-15
<%G-15> Which means switching will probably be allowed everywhere.
<@TaylorFSS`home> Switching is not allowed everywhere

<@TaylorFSS`home> Forests are helpful hehe

<@TaylorFSS`home> Stack splitting is definitely something we need

<@TaylorFSS`home> ya, a smooth respawn rate would be nice to have

I want roving Giant bosses on the overworld that are random.
<@TaylorFSS`home> in due time Firedog, currently the overworld isn’t big enough to have giants roaming around

Enjoy :)

GDC ‘08 - Mythos Interview

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008 |

WanderingGoblin and their sister site IncGamers got an exclusive interview with Taylor Balbi at this years Game Developers Convention.

We know Taylor Balbi as the Mythos Community Manager. The interview mentions the team at Flagship Seattle, what Mythos itself is like, what other games it is similar to. Taylor also talks of the different classes and the races and shows them off ingame. He also talks of future classes to be added, but does not specify when or what they are.

There is also talk of open beta in March! Yay!

He also talks about the payment system, which will include Real Money Transactions. The things that will be sold will make the game more fun, but will not be a necessity. Also things like special maps will be used for entire parties, not just people who bought them. The paid items will also be able to be traded ingame.

There is talk of the crafting system, which will have a tier based system of skills specifically for crafting.

Enjoy :)

Stropp’s World - Level’s 6-12

Sunday, February 10th, 2008 |

Stropp’s world blog site has posted up their second preview of Mythos, this time levels 6 through to 12.

I was going to title this post Mythos 6 - 10, but I got a bit carried away and leveled up to twelve. It’s not hard, Mythos is one of the games where I can easily get to the end of a quest and tell myself I have time for one more.

Enjoy :)

Some new site polls!

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008 |

Now that Mythos is due for a new patch and is moving along towards a game that many people seem to enjoy, I thought that we should make a few polls here at Mythos Guru.

So to start things off, here are two simple ones that will take you a couple of seconds to vote on, so go ahead and do it!

What is your favourite class?

What is your favourite race?

Feel free to add any comments if you want.

Thanks :)
